Bending Ribs

Bending ribs

After the ribs are resawed from a billet and rough thicknessed they are finalized first with a vintage toothed plane on both sides, then smoothed with a razor sharp bench plane to final thickness and finished with a cabinet scraper.  The ribs are then bent over a custom iron to the exact shape and glued with fitted cauls onto the blocks.  The C bouts are fit and glued first, trimmed and then the blocks are contoured to perfectly mitre the upper and lower bouts into the corners with a chalk fit butt joint along the center seam along the tailblock.
