Restoration

The preservation and restoration of fine old double basses requires extreme patience and innovation as no two repairs are identical. A vast repertoire of techniques is necessary to navigate each instrument and its unique demands. My experience working in string shops on both US coasts at Kolstein and Son, Lemur Music, LA BassWorks and Robertson and Sons Violins, built upon foundational training at the Violin Making School of America and the Oberlin Violin Makers Workshop, has given me a rare full spectrum of insight into the setup, adjustment, construction, repair and concept of the entire string family.

The projects I take on are vetted on merit so that I can pay complete focus and attention to each instrument and exceed the most demanding of expectations. As spots fill up and book out almost as soon as they are available, please inquire about scheduling and availability. Your patience and flexibility will be rewarded by expertise. Emergency repairs take serious consideration and must be billed accordingly if they can be accommodated.  Please inquire by email and allow 3-5 days for a response as travel to remote locations gathering wood, studying instruments, and adjusting basses for orchestras is becoming ever more frequent.
